In the spirit of prayer, joy, and service, we at the Hope House strive to be a community that reaches out to our neighborhood through learning humbly from our neighbors while loving them in unconventional ways. In solidarity, we commit to becoming intertwined in the life of our neighborhood with the hope of inspiring our neighbors and being inspired by them. Our internal community life will reflect a healthy environment by way of using good communication with one another, supporting one another, and together trusting God to lead us.
The Hope House is a new project with old roots. In the past 30 years that the Port Ministries has served Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood, the space has historically been used by Secular Franciscan communities who have used the name HOPE. In keeping with tradition, we also call ourselves the Hope House to carry on this heritage of service and prayer.
Molly, a nurse by profession, moved in to the Hope House along with Tom and Dannis, a married couple, in early May 2015. The Hope House is open to those who wish to serve the Port based on their skills and passion, and who want to live in a faith community.
Oh, and how could we forget Paulie, Tom and Dannis’ puppy, who has had one year expeirience as a ministry dog on the campus of Saint Xavier University.
